First week

Fri Feb 20, 2009, 4:47 AM
Quick update: I'll be doing something new tomorrow. YES! New work from Erik wtf? Don't worry, I still can't post anything contracted so don't cream your pants just yet. It'll probably just be something quick.

It's only been a week at Qantm and it's been good so far. Very reminiscent of Design cert IV and Illustration combined, I just hope the workload isn't combined. I guess I have to watch myself and not fall into the habit if thinking I know something. In a way it's strange, I know that I know this stuff but it's still interesting to me, every time that I would hear it from a different person it gives me a new insight. Guess you can say I crave for knowledge, and applying it? well that's a whole different story.

I'm looking forward to MED101: filming module, I always did regret not choosing Events and Entertainment when I was given the choice but I guess now I can actually focus on this filming project. The Teacher we have is great, very funny man and you can tell he knows what he's talking about and isn't afraid to show it and I like that. Looking forward to attending the advanced labs.

MED104: Drawing module, again another one of those things. Our head teacher says the exemption papers have not been cleared yet but I figured maybe learning how to draw from an animator might open new doors for me. I've been trained as a fine artists, later as... well... commercial illustrator? no. Commercial arty illustrator? bah I don't know but just the drawing exercises that the lecturer gave taught ME a thing or two. Funny ay? After how many years of art and illustration?

The lecturer's name is Idis and it's a small world. He knows my family from Enmore haha. Best friends with the notorious Rod and knows my favourite mentor of all time Barry! If I were to put all my favourite people together I think the world would explode. So many wild personalities, differing viewpoints on art.

DES101 (or 102?): Communication, this is slightly on the 'omg why am I doing this again' side but I guess it helps. I'm more interested in the new generation and how from a commercial standpoint even for people like me who's barely a generation younger have to adapt to the present. I don't know if it's a shame or should I be proud of it, seems like my generation was the last to have the oldschool way of growing up.

DES102: Principles of Design, again I've been doing this for yonks now and it's getting a bit repetitive. We have a really quite tutorial class for all I know. I'm not one to show off, people are there to learn together and being the know-it-all sucks. Just shut up, go with the flow, help others when they need it and perhaps when people wrap their minds about this stuff I can start asking my questions and start having discussions.

Well that's what I gathered from the first week of Qantm. It has been interesting I have to say. I don't know what is with me this year but my mind is focused on one thing and that is to learn as much as I can and do the best that I can. There are only so many years in my life and perhaps it's time to stop learning (at least in terms of formal education).

It's gotten to the point where I just go in, absorb the information, get home and look up extra stuff to read up on. Didn't even have time to stick around and meet some of the new people that I'll be with for the next two years lol. The few that I know are from my Monday's and they're awesome (pity I haven't really learnt any names yet, was always so bad with them). What woulda been better was to have a class set up instead of assigned tutorial groups in my opinion but oh well. I guess this DOES simulate the workforce a little better but my rule of thumb is, if you don't like the person you're working with then don't. Probably should change that mentality.

Anywho, probably be ranting in few weeks time about something that doesn't even matter :P til then I guess.
